Description

Freelancing has become one of the fastest-growing forms of work in the digital economy — yet the resilience that allows freelancers to survive, adapt, and thrive amid volatile gig platforms, algorithmic uncertainty, and shifting client demands has remained largely unexplored. Thriving in the Digital Workspace develops an integrative theoretical framework of digital resilience in freelance entrepreneurship, drawing together psychology, entrepreneurship, and digital labor research. The book identifies four core antecedents of resilience — persistence, bricolage, adaptability, and proactiveness — and traces how they shape freelancers' capacity to evaluate opportunities, elaborate on them, and extend their influence to clients, platforms, and peers. Synthesizing this framework into eight formal research propositions and a structured future research agenda, this work offers a theoretical foundation for scholars studying gig work and digital entrepreneurship, and practical guidance for freelancers, platform developers, and policymakers seeking to build more sustainable digital work ecosystems.
