Description

The unprecedented growth of computational power (Artificial Intelligence) and generation or collection of huge amounts of data (Big Data) has surely improved operational efficiency of many sectors inter-alia by delivering personalized goods/services, by reducing costs and by creating new business opportunities.  However, as every coin has two sides, such data-driven AI-tools are also being misused for committing different immoral and unlawful activities. Criminal organisations or terrorists groups are developing new and sophisticated ways for carrying out digital, physical and political attacks. And, to counter-balance the situation, the State [including its Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs)] has also been deploying AI-based tools to identify, counter or investigate the crimes/criminals, for instance, in terms of facilitating the identification of persons of interest or vehicles, predicting trends in criminal actions, flagging and responding to fake news etc.
