Due to the fast depletion of crude oil wells, increase in greenhouse gas (GHG) emission, energy security challenges, etc. the world through its researchers is in search of sustainable energy sources. Renewable energy sources (RES) have been found to be among the best solutions to the world’s energy insecurity and other challenges.
Pyrolysis is an important method for the production of biofuel, when compared to landfilling and incineration, pyrolysis is the best method for waste management (since it is a flexible and sustainable process).
The amount of cashew nut produced annually poses a challenge on how to dispose shells obtained along the processing line. The dark and oily waste stream is causing a growing concern about the environmental implications of cashew processing. When cashew nut shell is burnt as an energy source, the phenolic oil in the shells generates acid fumes that pollute. Research has shown that agricultural wastes when processed through pyrolysis becomes a potential for alternative fuel.
