Description

As a new type of nano carbon materials, graphene quantum dots (GQDs) have attracted the tremendous attention due to their outstanding properties and potential applications in the wide fields. In this book, the synthetic methods of GQDs are elaborated according to the top-down and bottom-up strategies. The former mainly contains oxidative cleavage, hydrothermal or solvothermal synthesis, the ultrasonic-assisted or microwave-assisted approaches, and electrochemical oxidation. The latter includes the controllable synthesis and carbonization. The characteristics of the methods, including advantages and disadvantages, as well as the influence on the properties of the GQDs are discussed. Furthermore, the recent development on the applications of GQDs, such as sensors, drug carriers, bio-imaging, and solar cells are introduced. Especially, the applications of GQDs in the biosensors and the catalysis for hydrogen evolution are highlighted in the scientific experiments. Finally, the supramolecular self-assembly of GQDs has been discussed, and a green and facile method with the novelty for constructing the supramolecular structures of GQDs has been presented. This book not only provides the readers with the important progresses of both the synthesis and applications of GQDs, but also gives the readers a comprehensive understanding of various domains of GQDs. We believe that the readers will find the joy of learning science in this book.
