Hospital’s buildings are characterized by high energy consumption and high carbon emissions compared to other public and private buildings. In the beginning of the 21st century climate change is conceived as the most severe global environmental problem causing many disasters in developed and developing countries threatening the growth and prosperity of our societies. The global efforts for its mitigation are focused on eliminating the use of carbon-emitting fuels in energy generation as well as on avoiding the atmospheric emissions of other undesirable gases increasing the greenhouse effect. Hospitals and healthcare facilities are complex organizations operating continuously all over the year consuming large amounts of energy and fuels in their premises.
