Descripción
Schiff base complexes of nickel exhibit variety of applications such as catalytic, biological and precursors for solid state reactions. They show a remarkable thermal stability and volatility upon the coordination of nitrogen to the metal atom. To demonstrate enhancement in thermal stability and volatility, two β-diketonate complexes namely, bis(1-phenyl-1,3-butanedionato)nickel(II), [Ni(bzac)2] (1) and its Schiff base analogue, N,N'-ethylene-bis(1-phenyl-1,3-butanediiminoato) nickel(II), [Ni(bzac)2en] (2) were synthesized and investigated using TG/DTA. Complex 2 crystallized in a Monoclinic system with a space group of P 21/n. Simultaneous TG/DTA analysis of 2 revealed the complex to be completely volatile by giving nil residue at 428oC in a smooth single-step weight loss after melting at 296oC.
