Water contamination by micropollutants resulting from anthropogenic activities has become one of the increasing concerns and interests of the scientific community during recent decades. Pharmaceuticals represent a major group of these contaminants and have received more attention once they were detected ubiquitously from few nanograms to several micrograms per liter of concentration levels. Hospital effluent may release a significant amount of pollutants with teratogenic, carcinogenic, and mutagenic hazards.
In this book results of previous investigations focusing on the characterisation of hospital effluents collected from different hospitals in Tunisia and the evaluation of health hazardous due to these waters. These works revealed the occurrence of pharmaceuticals in these samples and showed their effects including histopathologic, biochemical, estrogenic and genotoxic effects.
