Author Interview with Ioannis Vourdoubas

Author of the book: "DISCUSSING ON ENERGY AND CLIMATE CHANGE"

1. Please introduce yourself. What would you like your reader to know about you?

I was born and grown up in Crete, Greece while I have studied in Greek and British universities (B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D.). I have been involved in academia for many years lecturing in the field of renewable energies and in environmental sustainability while I was consulting private and public organizations on sustainability issues. During the last twenty-five years I was actively involved in many EU funded international projects cooperating with many private and public organizations in several countries. I was also active in writing and publishing both scientific papers and books and articles for the general public published in newspapers and magazines aiming to sensitize and to increase the awareness among citizens in issues related with environmental sustainability and climate change.

2. What is your inspiration/motivation for writing?

The necessity to sensitize and to increase the awareness of young people and the general public about the most important global environmental problem of our era has inspired me for writing this book. I have also realized that many people are not aware or they are misinformed about the causes and the devastating impacts of climate change to developed, developing and less developed countries. Therefore, I though that the book is going to be useful to them clarifying many aspects of this urgent problem in a simple and scientific way reminding them that they have to act as soon as possible to avoid an undesired future for them and for their children.

3. How long did it take to complete your research from the idea to the book?

The time for the completion of the book from the idea to publication was around eight (8) months.

4. What's the main message and idea of "DISCUSSING ON ENERGY AND CLIMATE CHANGE"?

The main message of the book was that “homo sapiens” is responsible for the aggravation of the greenhouse effect and the resulting climate change. The main cause for that is the extensive use of fossil fuels for energy generation in the period after the first industrial revolution. Coping to this problem requires immediate and significant changes in all sectors of our societies.

5. What was the most unexpected conclusion you came up with while preparing "DISCUSSING ON ENERGY AND CLIMATE CHANGE"?

The most unexpected conclusion that I came up during the preparation of this book was when I realized that the mitigation of climate change and the minimization of its devastating impacts was going to be easier if the citizens in developed and less developed countries were properly and adequately informed about the causes and the effect of climate change.

6. How would you describe your publishing experience with Eliva Press in a few words?

My publishing experience with Eliva Press during the current publication, like my previous publications, was excellent. I would like to emphasize its high reliability, the very good communication that we had and its effectiveness regarding the speed and the quality of the publication.
