How to unravel the model of the supercontinent cycle? -This book tries to investigate this fundamental question by using combined theoretical, mathematical and geological approaches. It is organized in three chapters that are presented as three scientific articles. The first chapter proposes a novel cyclicity for the supercontinent cycle. This accelerated cyclicity is interesting to include Gondwana in the sequence but also poses some new conundrums with the consideration of Eurasia as a supercontinent. The second chapter compares statistically the four published cyclicities and concludes that the accelerated cyclicity is matching better increased global geological records. The 500 and 800 million years cyclicities are credible but the constant cyclicity of 600 million years is the most dissimilar one. Finally, the third chapter investigates how geoscientists developed their supercontinent cycle models and proposes a methodology to maybe unravel the model. This book is addressed to postgraduate students and researchers who want in-depth outlooks on the theory of the supercontinent cycle.
