It started with a squat that would not stay in the middle. As he went down, his hips shifted to the right. Soon his left knee began to hurt, and then his right. He had trained for years, much of it trying to beat his twin brother at calisthenics exercise and who could run faster, until it became a constant question of who was better at lifting. He was strong. But his strength had been built almost entirely forwards and backwards, up and down, and it had a gap. He went on to teach sport biomechanics, coach strength and conditioning and analyse how people move. This book brings that work back to the gym floor. It shows coaches how to see movement in all three planes, test the differences between left and right, and pair every joint action with its opposite in a simple 12-week programme of four sessions a week. He is still training, except now that it is more purposely, in all three planes.
