As Aristotle once said, ' The aim of the wise is not to secure pleasure, but to avoid pain'. This quote shows the importance of effective pain control on people’s quality of life. The current book reviews the definition, physiology and classification of pain as well as highlights the role of analgesics in patients who undergo surgical operations. Furthermore, this book presents the current pain scales used for pain assessment and shows the experience of our department in pain measurement and management.
