The rapid growth of digital payment systems has paved the way for innovative technologies that enhance convenience, efficiency, and security in financial transactions. Among these innovations, Facial Recognition Payment (FRP) technology has emerged as a promising biometric payment solution that enables users to authenticate transactions through facial recognition, eliminating the need for cash, cards, passwords, or mobile devices.
As India continues its transition toward a digitally driven economy, supported by initiatives such as Digital India and the widespread adoption of UPI, understanding consumer acceptance of emerging payment technologies has become increasingly important. While FRP offers significant benefits, including faster transactions, contactless payments, and improved user experience, concerns related to trust, privacy, and data security may influence its adoption.
This study investigates the factors affecting the adoption of Facial Recognition Payment technology among Indian consumers. Drawing on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), the research examines the impact of Trust, Ease of Use, Relative Advantage, Privacy & Security, and Social Influence on adoption intentions.
Using a quantitative research approach, data was collected from 275 respondents and analyzed through PLS-SEM. The findings indicate that trust, perceived benefits, and social influence play a significant role in encouraging adoption, while privacy and security concerns remain important considerations. By exploring both technological and behavioral dimensions, this research contributes to the understanding of consumer acceptance of next-generation payment technologies in India.
