描述

While memory errors and forgetting occur in everyone’s daily life, they are much more prevalent in patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Patients and their family members are constantly affected by memory errors and their consequences. While some may be benign (e.g., forgetting a word in the middle of a conversation), others seriously affect social interactions (e.g., forgetting the name of a close friend in the middle of a conversation), daily life (e.g., forgetting one’s own address) and even the sense of self and identity (e.g., forgetting where and when you were born), in the advanced stages of the disease. These errors result from a decline in autobiographical memory (i.e., memory for personal information). Based on theoretical and experimental knowledge, the purpose of this handbook is to provide caregivers and clinicians with a protocol describing the strategies that can be implemented to alleviate decline in autobiographical memory in patients with Alzheimer’s disease.
