Lymph node is an organ of lymphatic system which engenders the adaptive immune system. Numerous lymph nodes configure a comprehensive network of the lymphatic system with interconnecting lymphatic vessels. Lymph node is a predominant site of emerging B and T lymphocytes and serves as a secondary lymphoid organ. Lymph node ensures appropriate function of the immune system and contributes to filtration of foreign particles such as malignant cells. The lymph node is enclosed within a fibrous capsule and demonstrates an extrinsic cortex and an intrinsic medulla. Lymph node enlarges or appears inflamed within various diseases induced by bacterial or viral infections or on account of metastatic deposits of diverse epithelial and mesenchymal malignancies. Lymph node is a critical determinant in cancer staging, application of strategic therapies and prognostic indicator in diverse malignancies.
