Aging is a collection of long-term, irreversible changes that affect all eukaryotic creatures on a molecular, cellular, tissue, organ, and system level. Age reduces both male and female reproductive abilities. Human aging is linked to functional changes in the steroidogenic and gametogenic compartments at all levels of the reproductive axis. Men are thought to be able to have children throughout their lifespan since the reduction in male reproductive ability with age is less pronounced than it is in females. The role and significance of maternal age in fertilization have been thoroughly discussed in literature, whereas the impact of paternal age has received less attention.
