In Tunisia, the textile sector is an engine of the Tunisian economy. However, this sector consumes a large quantity of fresh water, a wide variety of chemicals and alone generates half of the industrial pollution. The aim of this work is to search for contaminants present in the textile wastewater and to investigate their fate in the environment (adjacent rivers) and their associated risks. The physicochemical analysis revealed a high pollutant load. The ICP-MS and UPLC-MS/MS analysis revealed the presence of high concentrations of certain heavy metals metals and triphenylmethane and azo disperse textile dyes. Some of these dyes have also been detected in river waters with high levels. The presence of micropollutants in textile wastewater and adjacent rivers could induce harmful effects on environmental flora and fauna.
