I have spent my entire professional life focused on tackling the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease (CVD), its risk factors, and associated unhealthy lifestyle in my country, the Eastern Mediterranean region, and globally. I explore my three decades of clinical, epidemiological, and health promotion research and actions related to CVD. I hope readers will gain an understanding of how my “self-confidence, courage, commitment, innovative thoughts, team working, connecting different scientific and societal disciplines, inter-disciplinary research at the national, regional levels and globally, and learning by practice” assisted me to gain a variety of experiences in other disciplines besides medicine.
