Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) continued being the commonest cause of acquired heart disease in children of developing countries with no vaccine available to date. The contribution of RHD to overall global mortality showed no marked reduction even if there are effective prevention ways, and prevention is more cost effective than curative services.
Evidence showed that the disease is highly preventable as the cause is well established though the practice of prevention is yet unsatisfactory, especially in children of developing countries. Currently, the practice of primary prevention of RHD is advocated as this disease perpetuated in developing countries despite secondary preventive measures recommended in the past.
