Alvin Toffler (1928–2016) advanced the idea of unlearning in 1970. He noted the illiterates of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write but those who cannot "learn, unlearn, and relearn". The implication of unlearning is that you make an effort to forget your usual way of doing something so that you can learn a new and sometimes better way of doing things. For instance, globalization has become the critical means for gaining competitive advantage, and as such, e-learning has become a crucial element of knowledge acquisition, application, and creation. UNESCO supports national institutional policies on curriculum and curriculum delivery reforms to incorporate information communication technology. Kenya, being a member of the UN, had to domesticate international protocols on education. Therefore, Universities in Kenya are expected to have clear policies on e-learning. With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, all learning institutions in Kenya closed down. Teaching Universities had to adopt e-learning. Therefore, the current study sought to investigate the unlearning aspect of the use of online teaching and learning.
