The increased adoption of information and telecommunication technology by the South Asian population have facilitated the banks in this region to use IT applications to deliver an array of financial products and services. In this study we analysed how the usage of IT applications by South Asian banks to deliver financial products affects their performance and risk. South Asia provided a good research scenario for this study as the region has gone through deregulating their financial structures that has been followed by the adoption of information and communication technology by their population of which the majority is unbanked. Banks operating in this region therefore are in an opportune state to use IT applications to offer a range of innovative products to their customers. An analysis of the components of IT applications revealed that applications such as internet banking, mobile banking and automatic teller machines were the main contributors to the negative relationship uncovered between usage of IT products and forthcoming performance.
