The chapters in this book are the results from our collaborative research project: Online Campus Research Project at Tokyo Online University (TOU).
The initial motivation for the project was to create a buzzing online campus for TOU. How do we make an online platform where students work together, find new knowledge together, and foster pride in themselves and the university?
TOU is a brand-new, online-only university: it started to accept students in April 2018. It is one of the few online-only universities in Japan certified by the Japanese Ministry of Education.
Most classes are strictly conducted online, although a few exceptions exist for students who wish to obtain specific national certificates requiring mandatory practicums. Students can take classes on-demand, obtain credits, and graduate from the school without physically coming to the school campus.
