In "A Phenomenological Study on the Triggering Factors of Non-Suicidal Self-Injury in Young Adults," we delve into the complex psychological views of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) among young adults. This chapter employs a qualitative phenomenological approach to explore the intricate interplay of personal, communicative, and contextual factors that lead individuals to engage in self-injurious behaviors. Through in-depth interviews with 21 participants aged 17 to 29, the study uncovers profound insights into the triggers of NSSI, revealing three primary themes: "Questioning Self," "Questioning Values," and the "Conductive Environment." The findings highlight the significance of self-perception, familial relationships, and environmental factors in shaping the experiences of those who self-injure. This chapter not only contributes to the academic discourse surrounding NSSI but also serves as a vital resource for mental health professionals, offering guidance for effective interventions and a deeper understanding of the underlying mechanisms of this challenging behavior. With its focus on the lived experiences of individuals, this research lays the groundwork for future studies and emphasizes the urgent need for tailored therapeutic approaches in addressing NSSI in young adults.
