Description

Manganese is one of the most abundant metals naturally present in soil and is an essential nutrient for human consumption. However, an elevated amount of manganese in water has adverse effects on water quality. Manganese comes into the groundwater through natural and anthropogenic activities. The leaching of manganese from the soil is one of the critical paths for manganese contamination in groundwater. The dissolution of manganese depends on the water and soil chemistry. The mobility of manganese can be affected by various parameters, including pH and temperature. In this study, the leaching behavior of manganese from the soil into groundwater was investigated using a series of batch experiments.
