Description

In the electronics industry, the development of modern technologies leads to increase in efficiency and processing capabilities with simultaneous increase in the generation of power densities. Liquid cooling method is more suitable and prominent technique which involves the circulation of liquid coolants around the electronic system components to carry away the heat generated. In the recent years, carbon based nanofluids such as Graphene nano Platelets (GnP) and Carbon nanotubes (CNT) dispersed in water were found to be promising nanofluids for liquid cooling due to their excellent thermal conductivity . Graphene were found to be hydrophobic in nature which leads to the settlement while dispersing in basefluid. The acid treatment will leads to the attachment of acid groups on the side walls of the graphene which makes the dispersion stable but reduces heat transport potential. In addition, the two dimensional structure of the graphene sheets leads to the restacking of the sheets one over the other and hence promotes settlement. To overcome this effect, the host material should be added which acts as spacer in between the graphene sheets preventing the restacking of graphene sheets and promote thermal conductivity. Multi walled carbon nanotubes were found to have closer thermal conductivity 3000 W/mK as against 3000-5000 W/mK with that of graphene nanomaterials. The multi walled carbon nano tubes act as a spacer and the arrangement of nanotubes in the form of arrays in between the graphene sheets reduces the thermal contact resistance of the hybrid nano structure thereby promoting the higher thermal transport phenomenon. Hence, this combination of hyrid nanofluids (Graphene Nanoplatelets/Multi walled Carbon Nanotubes/ Water) were found to be the most promising coolants which effectively replaces the existing one.
